How to check the recommendation

Use the result as a starting point, then compare the maker’s size label on the exact bat.
Ask the player to take their normal stance and make a controlled backlift. The bat should not force them to lift the shoulder or lose balance.
If the player is close to a size boundary, compare both sizes. Choose control and comfortable pickup rather than buying an oversized bat to grow into.
For adult bats, weight distribution and pickup can matter as much as the printed size.

Which size should I choose?

Use the player-height guide above first. The player should be able to lift the bat into the backlift and complete a controlled swing without the bat feeling too long or heavy.

Does the bat need knocking-in?

Check the bat on arrival and complete the appropriate oiling, knocking-in and protective preparation before facing a hard leather cricket ball unless it has already been professionally prepared.
