Cricket Thigh Pad Size Calculator NZ

Enter the player’s height to find a practical starting size for a cricket thigh pad. Height is the main reference for this tool; always confirm that the pad sits securely over the leading thigh without restricting the batting stance or running movement.

Calculate a starting thigh-pad size

Measure the player’s full standing height without shoes. Then select the batting side so you know which orientation to choose when ordering.

How to check thigh-pad fit

  • The main guard should cover the leading thigh from near the hip towards the knee without sitting directly on the kneecap.
  • If the design includes an inner-thigh guard, position it over the inside of the opposite thigh and check that the connecting section lies comfortably.
  • Tighten the waist and leg straps enough to limit rotation, but not so tightly that they restrict bending, running or breathing.
  • Take a normal stance, complete a controlled backlift and walk or jog a few steps. Reposition the guard if it shifts or catches.
  • For players close to a height boundary, compare both neighbouring sizes and prioritise secure coverage and free movement.

How to choose a thigh pad after calculating size

The calculator gives a starting size from player height. After that, check that the guard covers the intended thigh area without restricting running, bending or batting movement. If the product is handed, choose the correct right- or left-handed batting variant.

You can compare junior thigh pads, youth thigh pads and adult thigh pads. For a complete junior setup, use the Junior Cricket Gear NZ Guide.

Common cricket thigh-pad size questions

How tight should a cricket thigh pad be?

It should stay in position during movement without feeling restrictive. Straps should secure the guard while still allowing a normal batting stance and running between wickets.

Do I need a right- or left-handed thigh pad?

Some thigh guards and combo systems are shaped for batting handedness. If a product lists right- and left-handed variants, select the option that matches the player's batting side.

What is a combo thigh guard?

A combo guard normally combines outer-thigh protection with additional inner-thigh or hip-area protection in one system. Coverage and sizing vary by model, so check the exact product details.

Should a junior use an adult thigh pad?

Only when the adult model genuinely fits. Oversized protection can move during batting and restrict mobility. Junior and youth players should normally start with the size recommended for their height and body measurements.

For broader protection options, browse Cricket Guards and Pads.

Use the result as a starting point. Size labels and guard shapes can vary, so confirm the exact product’s measurements and batting-side option before ordering.
