Cricket Helmet Size Calculator NZ

Measure the player's head circumference to find a practical starting size for a cricket helmet. Helmet sizing must be checked by measurement, not age. The result below is a guide only: always confirm the size range on the exact helmet product page and make sure the helmet sits securely with the grille positioned correctly.

Calculate a starting helmet size

Use a soft measuring tape around the widest part of the head, just above the eyebrows and ears. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight.

How to check cricket helmet fit

  • The helmet should sit level on the head, above the eyebrows, without rocking forward, backward or sideways.
  • The grille should protect the face while still giving clear vision. Check the exact product guidance for the grille gap.
  • The chin strap should hold the helmet securely without discomfort.
  • If the player is between sizes, compare both sizes and prioritise secure fit over room to grow.
  • Do not use a helmet that has visible damage or has taken a significant impact.

Common cricket helmet sizing questions

Can I choose helmet size by age?

No. Age can be misleading because head size varies a lot between players. Use head circumference first, then check the exact brand's size chart.

What if the measurement is between two sizes?

Compare both sizes if available. A helmet should feel secure without pressure points. Do not size up just for growth if the helmet moves around.

Should junior players wear adult helmets?

Only if the adult helmet genuinely fits the measured head circumference and sits correctly. An oversized helmet can shift during play and reduce protection.

Do wicketkeepers need a different cricket helmet?

Some wicketkeepers use specialist helmet or grille setups depending on level and role. Check the product description and intended use before ordering.
